Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners acquired a 25% stake in Five Estuaries, an offshore wind project of up to 1,080 megawatts off the north Essex and south Suffolk coast in England, IREI reported on Oct. 13.
The stake was previously held by a Macquarie-led consortium. CIP joins EDF Power Solutions, ESB and Sumitomo Corp. as backers of the project, in what IREI described as a new partnership structure. The investment was made through CIP's fifth flagship fund; the coverage does not give the price or the size of that fund.
For allocators evaluating CIP's fifth flagship fund, the purchase adds a project that already holds development consent, granted in December 2025 after more than four years of development. How much of the fund's capital is committed to assets past permitting, rather than to pre-consent development, is the mix question the deal lets a selector put to the manager.
CIP confirmed that since consent, work has covered further project design, early procurement and continued engagement with landowners, communities and other stakeholders. Once operational, Five Estuaries is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the equivalent needs of approximately 1 million average UK homes a year.
