CSBS survey: 20% of community banks could offer tokenized deposits, and 17% stablecoins

Banks planning stablecoin offerings favor core service providers over stablecoin networks, the survey found.

About 20% of community banks could offer tokenized deposits and 17% could offer stablecoins in 12 months if planned launches proceed, according to the Conference of State Bank Supervisors' 2026 survey reported by Ledger Insights.

The survey also found 61.8% of community banks already piloting or using artificial intelligence, with another 17.6% planning to do so within two years, Ledger Insights reported. On a five-year horizon, 23% of respondents called tokenized deposits potential opportunities and 21% said the same of stablecoins.

Banks planning stablecoin offerings are far more likely to use their core service providers than to partner with stablecoin networks, according to the survey.
