The Morton family investors behind Deus X are separating their investment activities, with Shane Morton establishing Darius for artificial intelligence and Owen and Jason Morton setting up 95 for markets and fintech. TensorX is owned by Shane Morton, one of Deus X's founders and backers. "We want to be a prominent player in AI in Europe," Grant told CoinDesk.

Background

Deus X debuted in October 2023 with $1 billion in existing investments and capital available for deployment, spanning private equity, venture capital and hedge fund allocations across digital assets, blockchain, fintech and institutional capital markets. Its early positions included stakes in Galaxy Digital and asset manager Hilbert Group, alongside allocations to several hedge funds, and it had a presence in Malta, London and the United Arab Emirates.

It launched Solstice Labs in September 2024 to build institutional-grade decentralized finance products. CoinDesk reported its portfolio also included proprietary trading firm Alpha Lab 40 and crypto prime broker Cor Prime, which launched with a $100 million risk-capital commitment from Deus X. Some portfolio businesses will continue operating with the involvement of existing stakeholders, the firm said.

Deus X said it had generated annual returns of 36.5% since inception and declined to disclose its total capital, according to CoinDesk. The firm said its backers are pursuing separate investment strategies.

Galaxy Research said in September that interest in artificial intelligence was diverting attention from digital assets and adding to fundraising challenges for venture firms, CoinDesk reported.
