Krolmap plans 225MW data center campus in Spain

Six buildings across 25 hectares in the La Legua industrial park; on-site generation would supply power, with capacity and tenants not yet published.

At a glance

  1. The Aragón-based engineering firm would build six independent buildings across 25 hectares in the La Legua industrial park.
  2. The capital burden lands on Krolmap, not a utility: the developer would have to size, fund and operate the plant that keeps a 225MW load running.
  3. Dividing €1.5 billion by 225MW gives roughly €6.7 million per megawatt, covering the buildings and the energy plant together.

Krolmap plans a 225MW data center campus in Belchite, Spain, a €1.5 billion ($1.68 billion) project designed to run on on-site generation, according to Data Center Dynamics, which cites Heraldo de Aragón.

The Aragón-based engineering firm would build six independent buildings across 25 hectares in the La Legua industrial park. Renewable generation, battery storage and cogeneration would supply continuous demand, but published information does not name the technologies or their capacity. Krolmap's proposal is in the planning phase and no development timeline has been released; a second Krolmap project is planned in Villanueva de Gállego.

The capital burden lands on Krolmap, not a utility: the developer would have to size, fund and operate the plant that keeps a 225MW load running. Published information does not say how the €1.5 billion splits between buildings and energy equipment, how it would be financed, or who the tenants would be. For allocators underwriting digital infrastructure, the power system is the diligence item ahead of the shell; the open question is whether generation is owned, leased or contracted to a third party.

Dividing €1.5 billion by 225MW gives roughly €6.7 million per megawatt, covering the buildings and the energy plant together. Self-supply is one route around Spain's grid-access constraint; Data Center Dynamics frames the model as a response to limited electrical power availability, with the trade-off that the developer absorbs the obligation to sustain critical load. In September Spain tendered 937 MW of capacity in a coal phase-out area without a price, a deadline or a revenue guarantee.
