LanzaJet secures at least $20 million as LanzaTech lifts its stake

The SAF producer says the financing is part of a shareholder recapitalization and debt-reduction initiative, with Jennifer Holmgren becoming interim CEO.

At a glance

  1. LanzaTech is significantly increasing its ownership stake in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer as part of a broader recapitalization and debt-reduction initiative by LanzaJet's shareholders and existing investors.
  2. Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech, will continue as chair of the LanzaJet board and serve as interim CEO.
  3. The financing follows LanzaJet's November 2025 announcement that it had reached full plant operation and produced fuel at Freedom Pines Fuels, which the company describes as the world's first commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet production facility.

LanzaJet has secured at least $20 million in new financing, the company announced on Oct. 16.

LanzaTech is significantly increasing its ownership stake in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer as part of a broader recapitalization and debt-reduction initiative by LanzaJet's shareholders and existing investors. The financing is supported by LanzaTech, investor Vinod Khosla and the LanzaJet board. Proceeds are earmarked to scale production and supply SAF to global customers from the company's Freedom Pines Fuels plant in Soperton, Georgia.

Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech, will continue as chair of the LanzaJet board and serve as interim CEO. Outgoing CEO Jimmy Samaritzis recently announced he will step down to take another leadership role in the SAF industry, according to the announcement.

The financing follows LanzaJet's November 2025 announcement that it had reached full plant operation and produced fuel at Freedom Pines Fuels, which the company describes as the world's first commercial-scale alcohol-to-jet production facility. The plant has annual capacity of 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel and has produced fuels meeting ASTM specifications. LanzaJet was launched by LanzaTech in 2020 and uses alcohol-to-jet technology to make SAF and renewable diesel from waste-based and sustainable ethanol feedstocks.

"LanzaTech has taken first-of-a-kind technology to profitable commercial operation," the announcement said, adding that with a larger ownership stake and the board's support it looks forward to bringing Freedom Pines Fuels and future LanzaJet plants to the same commercial success.
