Meta's 125 MW Texas PPA anchors the revenue case

The offtaker's name does more underwriting work than the megawatts.

At a glance

  1. The disclosed terms end with the buyer, the capacity and the state: no developer, no contract price, no target commercial-operation date.
  2. The developer still has to build the asset, hold to schedule and clear interconnection, but the hard underwriting question shifts from whether a buyer exists to what the contract pays and who carries the construction debt.
  3. The scarce commodity in utility-scale solar is no longer panels or sites; it is the bankable buyer at the end of the contract.

Meta has finalized a deal to buy power from a 125-MW solar project in Texas, Renewables Now reported Sept. 7, 2026. The disclosed terms end with the buyer, the capacity and the state: no developer, no contract price, no target commercial-operation date. A 125-MW solar asset with Meta as the offtaker still has an anchor on its revenue side rather than a straight merchant position in Texas wholesale markets, and that is the distinction lenders underwrite first.

The developer still has to build the asset, hold to schedule and clear interconnection, but the hard underwriting question shifts from whether a buyer exists to what the contract pays and who carries the construction debt. The likely financing read is that the contract sets a floor under cash flow while construction and interconnection remain the open items, a structure that raises cheaper capital than a comparable merchant plant.

That spread in cost of capital is why a 125-MW project earns attention. The scarce commodity in utility-scale solar is no longer panels or sites; it is the bankable buyer at the end of the contract. A developer with a Meta PPA can appear before lenders with a revenue agreement in hand, while a developer with only a site and an interconnection request is selling a promise. Those two conversations price differently, and generation is starting to trade on the same anchor principle that has made hyperscaler leases the pricing event in digital infrastructure.

This deal fits the transition-trade split: contracted, creditworthy offtake carries the premium, while generation without a buyer waits on the merchant curve. Blacktail-RayGen's Texas hybrid announcement in early September was another unpriced energy deal, naming partners and a state without capacity, buyer or price. It is the mirror image of Meta's PPA, where capacity and customer are set but the commercial numbers stay private.

What remains private is which developer holds the project and at what price Meta agreed to buy its power. The next disclosure that matters is financial close, when a lender group appears and attaches a real cost of capital to the asset. Watch for the lender group; that will show what the offtake is actually worth.
