MFA asks SEC to give CFTC sole oversight of EU bond futures

A Nov. 2 comment letter says ending dual oversight would make it easier for US investors to hedge risk.

At a glance

  1. The contracts now face dual SEC and CFTC oversight, MFA said, and the change “will make it easier for American investors to hedge risk.”
  2. For managers using EU bond futures to hedge European rates, the proposal would replace two supervisors with one for the same contract.
  3. MFA has taken up EU market-structure questions before, as Alternatives previously reported, backing Copenhagen Economics research that found public short-sale disclosure distorts investor behavior and raises barriers to capital formation.

MFA urged the SEC to finalize its proposal to move EU bond futures under sole CFTC oversight in a Nov. 2 comment letter.
