OKXICE files with SEC to trade 63 tokenized stocks via Uniswap v4 pools

The OKX-ICE venture would route stock trading through permissioned pools on X Layer; Cerebras has filed an objection to being included.

At a glance

  1. The venture pairs OKX with ICE, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange.
  2. The SEC has allowed tokenized U.S.-listed stocks onchain, and issuance was never the scarce part; the OKXICE plan asks for what has been missing, a 24/7 venue for more than 60 companies under a five-year exemption, with continuous sessions and settlement an institution can book.
  3. Permissioned is the word that carries the filing: running on Uniswap v4 gives the venue an automated market maker's price discovery and public-chain settlement, while gating the pools keeps admission at the contract level, so the operator decides who may hold a position instead of any wallet that shows up.

OKXICE has told the SEC it plans to run tokenized U.S. equity trading through permissioned Uniswap v4 pools on X Layer, covering 63 stocks, and Cerebras has already filed the only issuer objection the coverage names, The Defiant reported. The venture pairs OKX with ICE, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange.

The SEC has allowed tokenized U.S.-listed stocks onchain, and issuance was never the scarce part; the OKXICE plan asks for what has been missing, a 24/7 venue for more than 60 companies under a five-year exemption, with continuous sessions and settlement an institution can book. Five years is long enough to build a book and short enough to read as a trial rather than a permanent market structure.

Permissioned is the word that carries the filing: running on Uniswap v4 gives the venue an automated market maker's price discovery and public-chain settlement, while gating the pools keeps admission at the contract level, so the operator decides who may hold a position instead of any wallet that shows up. Circle took a comparable route with Arc, where founding institutions control block production on an otherwise open network. Permissioned pools put the same control at the point of trade rather than the point of settlement.

The pairing puts the NYSE's owner inside the venture, which cuts against the assumption that crypto venues and incumbent exchanges end up on different sides of this market. That an exchange group's venture would route stock trading through an AMM's pools at all is the harder detail to square with the way exchanges usually work, and it is why the permissioned design carries as much of the story as the exemption does.

The Cerebras objection is the first live test of something the tokenized-equity case has mostly avoided: what happens when an issuer would rather not be listed. The coverage does not say what grounds the objection rests on, how the SEC will weigh it against the request, or who would be permitted to trade in the pools, the detail that will decide whether this reads as an institutional venue or something closer to retail flow.

The terms the SEC attaches here, covering eligibility, consent, and what a company can do about being included, will shape how the next such filing is drafted.
