Schwab international bond ETF (SCIN) expected to list October 21, 2026 at 0.06% fee

The fund would track a dollar-hedged ICE index of non-dollar investment-grade debt and charge one basis point less than Vanguard's BNDX, according to ETF Trends.

At a glance

  1. The fund would hold international investment-grade debt.
  2. SCIN seeks to track the ICE Global Broad Market Excluding-USD RIC Capped Free-Float Index (USD Hedged), which provides exposure to non-U.S. dollar-denominated investment-grade debt across developed and emerging markets.
  3. ETF Trends places the 0.06% expense ratio among the lowest in both the Morningstar Global Bond – USD Hedged category and the Lipper International Income Funds category.

Schwab Asset Management plans to launch the Schwab International Bond ETF (SCIN) on the NYSE on October 21, 2026, with a 0.06% net expense ratio, according to ETF Trends. The fund would hold international investment-grade debt.

SCIN seeks to track the ICE Global Broad Market Excluding-USD RIC Capped Free-Float Index (USD Hedged), which provides exposure to non-U.S. dollar-denominated investment-grade debt across developed and emerging markets. ETF Trends reports the portfolio spans issuers in more than 40 countries, with holdings that include sovereign, quasi-government, corporate, securitized and collateralized debt securities, and that the largest country weightings sit in France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and Italy.

ETF Trends places the 0.06% expense ratio among the lowest in both the Morningstar Global Bond – USD Hedged category and the Lipper International Income Funds category. The comparison that matters for asset gathering is Vanguard Total International Bond ETF (BNDX), which ETF Trends lists at approximately $84 billion in assets under management and a 0.07% expense ratio — one basis point above SCIN.

The index SCIN seeks to track is dollar-hedged. ETF Trends notes that currency fluctuations are a major consideration for U.S. investors buying international bonds.

"At a time when international bonds are offering attractive yields and the potential for risk reduction in a bond portfolio, we are pleased to expand our fixed income lineup with the Schwab International Bond ETF," said David Botset, managing director, head of strategy, innovation and stewardship at Schwab Asset Management, in a press release.

A scheduled listing date is not a mandate. SCIN arrives with a one-basis-point fee edge over an incumbent holding roughly $84 billion, according to ETF Trends; whether that gap draws flows is an open question.

The category Schwab is buying into

ETF Trends frames the launch against a shift in how U.S. investors treat fixed income: central banks on different rate paths have pushed some investors to look overseas for income and diversification, the reasoning being that global debt markets often follow different economic cycles than the U.S. market. SCIN is positioned as a building block for a diversified bond portfolio rather than a standalone allocation.
