XYPN adds Income Lab as a member benefit for more than 2,300 planners

Retirement income planning reached the top of the network's benefit request list in 2026, and more than 300 members already use Income Lab.

At a glance

  1. The platform had ranked among the five most-requested member benefits at the network, a business support platform for fee-only financial planners, for three consecutive years and reached the top of that list in 2026.
  2. The rollout begins partway done.
  3. What the membership makes available is a specific set of decumulation tasks: retirement income projections, Roth conversion planning, Social Security optimization, Medicare and IRMAA planning, and tax-aware withdrawals.

XYPN made Income Lab a member benefit on Sept. 29, announcing the retirement income planning platform as a partner at its 12th annual conference in San Diego. The platform had ranked among the five most-requested member benefits at the network, a business support platform for fee-only financial planners, for three consecutive years and reached the top of that list in 2026. A ranking that climbs like that is close to a purchase order.

The rollout begins partway done. XYPN has more than 2,300 members, and more than 300 of them already use Income Lab, so a slice of the network was on the platform before the benefit existed. The larger slice is not yet the natural buyer. The vast majority of those members focus on clients who are still in the accumulation phase of their careers, which puts the retirement income projections, tax-aware withdrawal strategies and Social Security calls the software handles years downstream for a good share of the firms now entitled to it. Moore, XYPN's co-founder and CEO, said Income Lab "has been one of the most requested partnerships in our Network for years."

What the membership makes available is a specific set of decumulation tasks: retirement income projections, Roth conversion planning, Social Security optimization, Medicare and IRMAA planning, and tax-aware withdrawals. The methodology rests on spending power and how it may adjust over time, which Income Lab presents as an alternative to probability-of-success discussions, the kind that tell a client how likely a plan is to hold without saying much about what to do when it doesn't.

A specialist beside the suites

XYPN members are not short of planning software. Bowman, the network's managing director of partnerships, said RightCapital is a membership option on the accumulation side, and that eMoney Advisor and Envestnet | MoneyGuide have been available to members at discounts for years. Members also have access to other decumulation providers, so the new benefit adds one route into retirement income planning rather than cutting off the others. "But Income Lab is the standout solution for retirement planning," Bowman said, adding that for now the network is not exploring further partnerships with specialized decumulation tools.

The arrangement sits between two ways of selling planning technology. The broad suites cover the whole client lifecycle and win on staying wired into everything else the advisor runs. A decumulation specialist sells depth in the phase where the questions get specific and the answers have to be sequenced: claim Social Security here, convert a Roth there, watch the IRMAA threshold in between. A tool included with membership likely changes the arithmetic for a firm that would otherwise weigh a retirement income license against other line items, because the question shifts from whether the subscription is worth the money to whether the software is worth the hours it takes to learn.

Income Lab's record is the reason it got the slot: two wins in the XYPN AdviceTech Competition, a 9.0 advisor satisfaction rating in the 2023 and 2025 Kitces AdvisorTech studies, and the top rating for retirement distribution planning software in the T3 Software Survey in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The company is also moving past its retirement distribution roots, adding planning capabilities, productivity features and artificial intelligence-driven functionality that broaden its role across the planning process. Poulsen, its co-founder and CEO, said in a prepared statement that Income Lab is "continually expanding our capabilities to help advisors deliver more comprehensive, personalized recommendations across every stage of a client's financial journey." Set that against the network's existing arrangement with RightCapital on the accumulation side, and the specialist is describing a road toward the suite.

The timing suggests both sides are buying ahead of the need. More than 300 members had already found Income Lab on their own, which reads as a live test group the network could examine before putting its name on the benefit. If the accumulation-phase majority moves onto the platform over the next few years, the benefit will have done something a discount could not: put a decumulation engine in front of firms before their clients needed one, so the first withdrawal conversation happens on software the advisor already knows.

For now XYPN has one named decumulation partner and no stated appetite for a second. The members already on Income Lab found it without the benefit. Whether the rest of the roster follows while their clients are still saving, or waits for the first withdrawal question to arrive, is the test the partnership will be judged on.
