What it does
Preqin collects and sells data on alternative assets: private equity, venture capital, private credit, secondaries, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure and natural resources. Its users include asset managers, insurers, pension funds, wealth managers, banks and service providers, who use it to raise capital, choose and diligence fund managers, source deals, benchmark performance and follow the market.
The main product, Preqin Pro, covers funds, fund performance and terms, investors, portfolio companies, deals and exits, and service providers, and is available on the web, a mobile app, data feeds and partner integrations, including CRM and research tools such as Altvia, Backstop Solutions and Bipsync. Preqin also publishes benchmarks and indices, research reports and an MCP connector for AI tools, and its benchmarks are offered inside BlackRock's Aladdin.
Preqin was founded in 2003 by Mark O'Hare. BlackRock completed its purchase of the company in March 2025 for about £2.5 billion and keeps Preqin available as a standalone product. Prices are not published.
