Google and Voltus target one gigawatt of virtual power plant capacity in PJM

The companies described the plan Thursday as a way to free space on an energy-strapped grid for data centers.

At a glance

  1. The California-based Voltus would work with the energy use of thousands of homes and businesses.
  2. A gigawatt here is a target, not capacity already contracted or delivered to PJM.
  3. Google applied the same logic in its PG&E virtual plant, which this publication covered in September.
