What it does
Interactive Brokers runs an electronic brokerage that custodies assets and executes trades for individual investors and for institutions, including registered investment advisers, hedge funds, proprietary trading groups and introducing brokers. Its IBKR for Advisors program serves RIAs from breakaway advisors to acquirers, and a separate account type covers exempt advisers with 15 or fewer clients.
Advisors can trade equities, bonds, funds, options, futures and currencies on more than 175 markets from a single account structure. The advisor platform includes PortfolioAnalyst reporting, white-labeled client statements and portals, automated client fee billing, model-based portfolio management and rebalancing, CRM integration, open APIs and a free advisor website. The company also offers an outsourced trading desk for large or complex orders and an AI integration that connects outside assistants through MCP. It positions itself as a custodian that runs no in-house advisory business, referral network or proprietary products.
Pricing is published, with per-share commissions on U.S. stocks and posted margin and cash interest rates. Interactive Brokers Group trades on Nasdaq under IBKR and is headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut. Its history traces to Thomas Peterffy's options market-making business in 1977, and the company says it has more than 3,280 employees.
