What it does

Orion makes software and investment services for registered investment advisers and broker-dealers, as well as custodians, family offices and bank trust departments. Its technology business sells portfolio accounting, Redtail CRM, trading, planning, risk analytics, compliance software and client and advisor portals, which firms can buy as a set or as separate parts. The company says $6.8 trillion in platform assets sit on its technology and about 100,000 people use Redtail.

Portfolio accounting covers fee billing, performance reporting and trading, with tax-aware rebalancing and an advisor trading tool. Orion Compliance handles personal trading, certifications, outside business activities, gifts and pre- and post-trade surveillance of client accounts. Denali AI and the Denali data layer pull data from across the Orion products for reporting and analysis. The wealth management side runs an open-architecture TAMP through its adviser subsidiary OPS, a model marketplace of third-party strategists, custom indexing, OCIO services through TownSquare Capital, Brinker Capital portfolios, and cash and credit products.

The company traces its start to 1999, when it built portfolio accounting software for an RIA. Orion Compliance publishes pricing: employee and firm oversight is $8,500 a year for up to 10 users, and client oversight starts at $10,000 a year plus a per-account fee. In September 2026 Orion joined Anthropic as a launch partner for its Claude advisor plugin.
