LGT Capital Partners named Sascha Gruber its next chief executive, effective Jan. 1, 2027, succeeding Roberto Paganoni, who has been CEO since the firm's founding in 1998. Hedgeweek reported the appointment, which it said remains subject to regulatory approval, citing reporting by finews.
Gruber joined LGT in 2002 and has held senior leadership positions across its investment operations, including roles on the executive management team and investment committees. He played a significant role in developing its private markets and secondaries strategies and in supporting its international expansion across North and South America.
For the firm's institutional investor base, the succession raises a key-person question: fund terms that name Paganoni in key-person provisions may need review against his move to the board, and the open question is whether Gruber's investment-committee seats change when he becomes CEO.
The firm manages more than $120 billion for more than 750 institutional investors, employs about 1,000 people across 16 offices and is headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland. It is owned by Liechtenstein's princely family. Paganoni moves to the Group Holding Board after nearly three decades as CEO; LGT said its existing investment strategy will remain unchanged under Gruber and that the appointment is intended to provide leadership continuity. Regulatory approval is the remaining condition before the Jan. 1, 2027 start.
