OpenArc Corporate Advisory tops 30-day tally, ahead of UBS

The corporate advisory firm was named in 109 events; UBS logged 105 and RFG Advisory 95, while the industry recorded 2,308 advisor moves and 757 deal announcements.

At a glance

  1. Brighton Jones at 69, The Wealth Consulting Group and Frost Investment Services at 68 apiece, and AssetMark at 58 complete the group.
  2. The 30-day totals add to 5,078 events, roughly 169 a day, running from 2,308 advisor moves at the top of the range to 22 custodian changes at the bottom, and the detail in between covers every corner of the business.
  3. Fund launches ran at roughly a dozen a day against 121 new registrations, about four a day: three new vehicles for every new registration.

OpenArc Corporate Advisory was named in 109 wealth-industry events over the past 30 days, the highest count on PWD's list of the most active firms and four more than UBS, which logged 105, while RFG Advisory followed at 95. Those three are the only names to clear ninety.

That rate works out to more than three and a half appearances a day for OpenArc, and the rest of the list runs thinner. Twelve firms cleared 58 events—about two a day apiece—and the whole dozen fits inside a 51-event band, narrow enough that a busy week could reorder most of it, with Modern Wealth Management at 87, MissionSquare Wealth Management at 85, NewEdge Wealth at 83 and Kestra Private Wealth Services at 77 sitting within ten events of one another. Brighton Jones at 69, The Wealth Consulting Group and Frost Investment Services at 68 apiece, and AssetMark at 58 complete the group.

The 30-day totals add to 5,078 events, roughly 169 a day, running from 2,308 advisor moves at the top of the range to 22 custodian changes at the bottom, and the detail in between covers every corner of the business. Deal announcements came to 757, or twenty-five a day, and closings to 592, twenty a day; executive changes reached 431, fund launches 367, team liftouts 188, asset changes 157 and new registrations 121, with deal talk, office openings and breakaways trailing at 59, 40 and 36.

Fund launches ran at roughly a dozen a day against 121 new registrations, about four a day: three new vehicles for every new registration. Whatever else the month was, it was a stretch of product-building, and the launches are the part of this activity that will still be on a shelf a year from now.

The firm in the room

Recruiting is still where the volume lives, with advisor moves running at three times the deal-announcement count and nearly four times the closing count. The busiest name of the month, though, is a corporate advisory firm, which could reflect where the industry's center of gravity now sits or simply how a firm in the middle of other people's transactions accumulates mentions.

A bank, a platform or an RIA tends to appear when something happens to it—a deal, a hire, a new registration—whereas an advisory firm appears when something happens to someone else and it is in the room, so a single mandate can generate several entries while a completed acquisition generates one or two. Whether OpenArc's 109 events break down that way is not something the month settles; the coverage does not itemize its activity, and no client roster is part of it.

The 431 executive changes—fourteen a day—describe an industry that keeps buying businesses and rebuilding the top of what it buys, and measured against 592 closings, leadership turnover is running at nearly three-quarters the pace of completed deals, which is what consolidation looks like from the outside: a purchase closes, and the management of what was bought changes hands.

Team liftouts, at 188, are the sharpest reading in the pack for anyone tracking the recruiting market, and against 2,308 individual advisor moves they amount to about eight percent of the traffic: advice talent still relocates a person or a small group at a time, and the version of the story that travels, a whole team leaving at once, is the exception in the arithmetic. Thirty-six breakaways, 121 registrations and 40 office openings describe capacity added in small increments, and 22 custodian changes make repapering the quietest corner of the month.

One wrinkle sits inside the ranking: MissionSquare's wealth and retirement operations are listed as separate entries, at 85 events and 64, so read as one book, the two total 149, comfortably clear of OpenArc's 109. The month's count does not settle which reading is right, which is worth remembering before treating any 30-day leaderboard as a verdict.

The gap between announcements and closings is the number to watch. If 757 keeps outrunning 592 month after month, the effect will show up first among the names at the top of this table—the intermediaries that get named in transactions without being a party to them.
