Trentar signs Maharashtra MoU for proposed 500MW hyperscale data center

The Dorf Ketal unit plans INR 30,000 crore ($3.3 billion) for a campus whose location and construction timeline are undisclosed.

  2. Under the MoU, the state will help coordinate permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives, and Trentar said the project has received a state letter of intent outlining the support.

Data Center Dynamics reported on Oct. 13 that Trentar Private signed an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra for a proposed 500MW hyperscale data center and INR 30,000 crore ($3.3 billion) investment. Trentar is the technology and infrastructure arm of Dorf Ketal Group.

Under the MoU, the state will help coordinate permissions, registrations, approvals, clearances and incentives, and Trentar said the project has received a state letter of intent outlining the support. A location and construction timeline were not disclosed.

Subodh Menon, Trentar's group founder and vice chairman, said the company would use modular construction to bring the facility up quickly. Trentar said it aims to power the site with at least 51% renewable energy and is investigating recycled water and efficient cooling.

PID reported on Oct. 6 that Trentar planned a $3bn renewables-powered data center in India. The MoU supplies a state and capacity, though the coverage does not say the two refer to the same project.

The Trentar announcement names no tenant or offtaker for the 500MW campus, and the capacity is a proposal backed by a state MoU rather than a contracted load. Maharashtra's existing data centers are mostly in Mumbai, and the state has other capacity in development, including a $21bn AirTrunk project that could eventually provide 3GW, DCD reported.
